Another year has come and gone and here we are once again – except this year I got my balloons, my Vans, drove out to the colorful town that is Bokaap and shot some fun Birthday pics with Radiefa Peters. We struggled a bit as it just so happened to be one of Cape Town’s infamously windy days, causing my dress to double me in size/lift up and my balloons to cause the people passing by to wish me a ‘Happy 42nd Birthday’. Still, we persisted and this was the outcome.
If you are a loyal follower of my blog (you’re out there I’m sure of it) then you will remember my Birthday blog post last year, Older and Wiser, where I explained my childlike obsession with Birthday’s. As you can clearly see from looking at these pictures, nothing has changed. This year I turned twenty-four, oh my! Now more than ever before I used this Birthday to reflect on the past year and set goals for the year to come. I spend so much time stressing about the uncertainty of the future and pushing myself to do more, to be more, that it was the best thing for me to have a weekend ‘off’ in a sense. Just a chance to acknowledge my blessings and enjoy who and where I am right now.
I found an article about being in your twenties which deemed appropriate to me and I thought I would share it with you all. It’s a tiring time in our lives, of growing and evolving as a person. Let’s seek guidance wherever we can and focus on being the best versions of ourselves 🙂
What my 20’s has taught me.
Sometimes the heart has to break in order to mold into something much better.
Parents are human too.
We’re all dealing or working through something. Remember this when you want to be unkind.
Gossip makes you feel bad.
If someone is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, they are not nice people.
Your degree does not have to define what you do for the rest of your life.
Other people’s opinions of you should not dictate your opinion of yourself.
Close relationships with family and friends are not optional.
Be grateful for everything.
Giving is way better than hoarding.
Being vulnerable is a good thing.
If you are in love with a man with integrity… Don’t ever let go.
Pray for vision in your life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my blogging journey thus far and for putting up with my ‘new blog post is up’ notifications – I used to hate those sort of things before I became a blogger and in doing so discovered, the hustle is real! So thank you, and I hope to make your valuable time spent on my blog very worthwhile in this next year to come. Onwards and upwards! Also a quick thank you to everyone who wished and celebrated with me yesterday, I had one of the best Birthdays in a long time.
