The older I get the more indecisive I am becoming, what I like today I hate tomorrow, what is in this week is definitely out next week and so it goes. So for argument sake I will phrase the following sentence accordingly; Spring is my utmost all time favourite season, at the moment. There is something so joyful and soothing about the colours returning to the trees, everyone dusting off their sun hats and glasses, and evening tea and rusks turning to sundowners. Spring is a happy season! I for one am ready to embrace the good weather and all the fashion delights it brings with it. I got together with the talented Michigan Behn the other day to shoot some looks I am loving for the current Spring season.
The real MVP of this outfit hands down is my straw bowler hat. I have been loving this trend for some time now but have really struggled to find THE hat. Unfortunately for me I have the biggest head you can imagine, (people always say I over exaggerate but seriously it’s a big head) so nothing ever seems to fit when shopping for head gear. This time last year I bought a very similar hat from Factorie, but the brim was rather small and it was an extremely tight fit. I carried it around to the beach and a few outdoor festivals but never actually wore it, something was just always a miss. So happiness personified this season when I stumbled upon this perfect bowler hat from Country Road – I can finally tick it off my Spring wishlist. It comes in different sizes and has a wide brim, fashionably and practically a hit.
My dress featured is a pastel blue button up boob tube dress; with it’s bare back and bow in the front, it has feature points from all angles. This season the 3/4 dress is big, it’s not as formal as a maxi dress sometimes feels, and for tall people such as myself, there is no worry of your mini dress being too mini. The elasticity in the shoulders makes this dress accommodating and comfortable for different bust sizes and creates a flared sleeve at some angles, which I picked up on going through photos of the shoot. I love that you can swop out the sandals for some wedges and this classic and casual daytime dress is instantly appropriate for a Spring wedding or Birthday high tea. To build a wardrobe with key pieces that are versatile and timeless, such as this, is the perfect way to stretch your money and get more for your wear. The downside about this dress; it creases very easily as shown in a few photos, and is very tight fitting from the waist down. Between the time I first bought the dress and the time I did this shoot I may or may not have overindulged with some of my favourite treats, and sheesh did I feel it in this dress! I kept making jokes the whole time that I was busting out of my dress, which I wasn’t, but all girls will know if you don’t feel comfortable you won’t enjoy yourself. That goes for any outfit at any occasion.
Outfit details
Straw Hat – Country Road
Dress – Topshop
Brown Swing Bag – Forever New
Brown Sandals – Cotton On
I opted to pair this look with a brown swing bag and brown sandals, to really accentuate the Spring feel. Alternatively this dress would look really good with some platform Supergas (see my OOTD post) and a denim jacket. There is not a lot of jewelry featured here as I felt the hat makes quite a statement on its own, but without it there is room to play around with different and fun chokers or layer some rose gold necklaces.
The problem with Spring is that you are still recovering from Winter, as shown by an incidentally pale me in the above photos. Time to get some sun and sea in the weeks to follow! Thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback lately, I’m investing a lot of time and money to get this site properly up and running in 2017 so until then I hope you will all bear with me.
[…] perhaps but I whipped out my trusty straw hat from last Spring (see last season’s post Straw Hats & Bare Backs to see how I styled it then) to pair with this pale blue and white striped dress. It’s so […]
