Fashion experts are constantly rambling on about how fashion recycles itself, and how old trends always come back in fashion. Well never was that more true than now… Introducing the return of the platform!
Being a 90’s baby I grew up in what was arguably one of the best fashion periods in decades. A time where crop tops; scrunchie’s, high-waisted pants, platform sneakers and bright printed tee’s were a way of life. To put it simply – the Spice Girls were my role models. Fast forward 15 years and the 90’s are reborn! Out of all the trends it seems as though, almost overnight, the platform sneaker has popped up everywhere. I myself remember muttering something along the lines of “I can’t believe people are wearing those again”, or “You won’t catch me dead in a pair of shoes like that”.I now find myself absolutely mesmerized and obsessed with the trend.
Probably one of the things that I love so much about fashion, is that it challenges you and makes you do things you never thought you would. If someone would have told me I would be walking around in platform sneakers in the year 2015, I would have enjoyed a good chuckle at that. But there is just something about this sneaker that is raising eyebrows and causing a stir among so many girls. It might be that extra added height it gives you or it could it be the love for old trends that are coming back? Or could it simply be the element of fun that this shoe adds to an everyday ‘normal’ outfit. Whatever it is, it goes without saying that the platform sneaker makes you feel empowered, and gives you that extra little ‘oomph’ each day.
Although being on trend is great, always remember to take the trend and make it your own. Wear the platform sneaker in your own unique way and give it a different take. After all, one of the main reasons this shoe is such a hit is because it makes you stand out, so the last thing you want when wearing it is to blend in. After having bought myself a pair of shiny silver platforms this weekend (or my disco dancing shoes as I like to call them), its safe to say that me and my blonde hair feel ready to take on the world. Just call me Baby Spice.
