Generally speaking, most girls have either a shoe or a bag fetish. In my case, I am absolutely obsessed with sunglasses! Besides their obvious use of blocking the sun from your eyes, sunglasses are a great fashion statement (and perfect for hiding your face after a big night out). It’s the attention to detail with the smaller pieces, such as sunglasses, that really tie a great outfit together.
In the past I’ve always had numerous pairs of sunglasses; different colours, different styles, and have chopped and changed with a pair each day according to my outfits. These glasses were usually very cheap and not of the best quality, but seeing as I was using them purely for fashionable reasons it seemed okay. Now my taste has definietly changed a lot and if I’m being honest I’m way more fussy with my purchases’. I prefer to have items of high quality that will last a while, and that not every second person I pass will own. Unfortunately, in 99% of cases, that means spending more money, this example is no exception. The other day I decided it was about time I splurged and spent some money on a decent pair of shades for the upcoming summer. A pair that you buy at an actual sunglass store, not a clothing store that has a R199 sunglass stand at the back – come on girls you know the stores I’m referring to…
Although the options, and brand names, are endless, I knew that my first big sunglass purchase was always going to be on a beautiful pair of Ray Bans. In the past I’ve definitely bought a few fake ones here and there, and so it seemed fitting I got the real deal this time. I was so excited after I bought my Rays I even posted a picture to my Instagram page of my new purchase – thats when you know I’m excited (boredom may or may not have played a factor in this decision). To top it off, my new glasses not only look stylish and can be worn with almost any outfit I put together, they are very practical too. Who would have thought, sunglasses that actually block the sun from my eyes?
Let me know what your next big summer splurge item is going to be, I love to hear from you and your thoughts on this topic. Don’t forget, as much fun as it is buying an expensive item you’ve had your eye on a while, it can be just as fun finding a sale on a couple things as well. As much as I love my new shades, I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a few ‘cheapie’s’ stashed away in my draw – you just never know when you will need a pair!
