I’ll never understand why the majority of people see headwear as a major fashion moment. Like, if you’re wearing headwear you must be ‘super fashion forward’? Maybe it’s just from when I lived in Durban and the culture there is more laid back, but I never used to see girls or guys accessorising with hats, caps, beanies, head scarves etc. Headwear is a vital component in any outfit and in winter months, a necessary garment. I’m so excited to welcome in the seasons trend: the beret. Not a new trend by any means but not often seen locally and stereotypically known as a popular Parisian piece. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers, influencers and local designers incorporating the beret into their looks and was inspired to put together my own ensemble. I love the European flare that the beret adds – not to mention how perfect it is for a cold winters day!
You can’t really tell from the images but the dress shown here is actually a winter dress. It’s a jersey dress with thick cotton fabric, has a lot of stretch and keeps me cosy and warm whenever I wear it 🙂 I also bought it because I thought it looked quite elegant. I paired it with this black three-quarter overlay, black boots and black accessories to really make the symmetrical lines on the dress stand out. Me being me I had to of course pair it with a red lip to finish the look off and tie in a bit of red elsewhere.
What are your thoughts on these retro sunglasses? We first them saw worn by the Kardashians early last year and the trend has since taken off. More commonly known is Gigi Hadid’s collaboration with Vogue eyewear which has numerous elongated dramatic pairs, similar to this style here. The continued sunglass trend from 2017 is to wear small round or pointy glasses, very high fashion and very alternative at the same time. I don’t know of a music festival or Hollywood A-list party that didn’t like a pair of these shades.

I hope you like the first of my 2018 winter fashion OOTD. Summer ran away with me so quickly that I’m still adjusting to the change in season and making the most of my summer outfits, on the odd day that I still can. Thank you so much to everyone who continues to read my blog, send me feedback or use my outfits for fashion inspo – I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. A special thank you also goes out for the overwhelming support regarding my last blog post about my boyfriend and I. To say I was terrified to share that post was an understatement like none other, but I really felt it was something I needed to do for myself, and for Chad, to get a bit of closure on that chapter in our lives. Having you all enjoy it and find it relatable and helpful was just an added (and very much welcomed) bonus. Sending you all lots of love.
These photos are absolutely gorgeous! I love the Beret
