It’s that time of year again. Winter is in full force, I’m incessantly pale and I’m trying to make my layers upon layers look fashionable. My recent wardrobe favourite, which I’ve been making the most of in both winter and summer, is a longer length skirt. The slip skirt’s in summer and the pleated skirts in winter, as shown below.

I find the pleated skirt’s work better in winter as they are a bit fuller and have more fabric for your play around with, or literally just to keep you layered up from the cold air. I’ve paired this skirt, which is beyond comfortable I must add, with a wool black and burnt orange sweater from local store, Poetry. It’s quite a popular item in my community and have loved seeing different looks be built around this sweater.
Although I’ve added your standard white tennis sneaker to my outfit here, another option is to pair this skirt with a heeled boot, along with a leather jacket, and it’s a perfect transition from day-to-night. After all, winter is the kind of season you want to be able to build on your outfit, not completely start over with a new one when it’s time for a night out (Any extra effort whatsoever is pushing it when it’s cold you guys).
The black leather handbag is the latest edition to my collection and a welcome addition to my forever growing ‘dark’ winter wardrobe. I love that you can wear it as a crossbody, a shoulder bag or shorten the chain and use it as a handheld item too – whatever the occasion calls for or whatever suits your look best.

These images may look calm and casual but I’ll have you know that it was one of the windiest, most extreme winter days we’ve had in Cape Town this year thus far. My photographer Tegan and I snuck off the roads and hid undercover by a quaint café to take a few pictures and embrace the deserted surroundings. In the end we had a lot of fun and got the shots we wanted so all’s well that end’s well.
