Happy New Year everyone! I hope the first few days of the year have been successful for you and you had a happy, relaxing holiday – time off was much-needed for us all I’m sure. You may be surprised to see no ‘new year, new me’ post has gone up this year and that’s purely due to the fact that I am not under the impression 2018 is even upon us yet. I have never been so under prepared for a new year in my whole life. No new year’s resolutions, no incessant change of lifestyle – not even a diary for the year! That’s when you know. I desperately still want to get to all of these things as, as you know, I am a firm believer in setting goals, starting over and all those good things, I’m just a bit delayed this year. So look out for that in the not so distant future, hopefully.
In the meantime, I have some cute swimwear inspo to share with you to help you through the remainder of the summer season.
This season it’s about the booty. ‘Cheeky’ cut bottoms are the craze and surprisingly enough, I’m on board. The 90’s vibe is also a real thing, so high cut bottoms with full view of the booty were seen all across Clifton beach these holidays. The bikini I’m wearing here is cheeky cut but not high cut, which I did however attempt to transform into high cut (this is confusing I know). Perhaps my height creates difficulty with this and so it was a bit of a fail. If possible look for a bikini that is not too restricting with the bottom’s that allows you to pull them up and wear as high cut bottoms but also still leaves you with the option to wear as normal. You never know where you will be wearing your bikini or who you will be wearing it around. Depending on this you may or may not want to be a bit more conservative (you’re young once, show off them cheeks).
You may have noticed that I’ve never done a swimwear post before, heck I’ve barely posted a bikini pic before on my Insta. This is not because I’m self-conscious or anything to that extend, I’m actually just a bit uncomfortable sharing this type of thing online. I’m probably so old-school but I’ve always been more reserved with this type of thing. I see these models with their Insta feed covered in teeny-weeny bikini’s or top-less images and I literally cringe. I am getting better though and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. These images for example, a year ago I would never have shared on my blog. Because I’m moving around, laughing, bending over etc, my body does not necessarily look ‘Insta-worthy’ in all of them. I used to only post images from a certain angle that looked exactly the way I wanted them to, nothing like my natural pics from this shoot. So here I am keeping it real, natural and actually having a good time.
Side note: I know having a swan float puts me at no.1 on the ‘basic white girl’ list but I’m okay with that.
With my second look I’m wearing a pink one-piece with, you guessed it, a high cut leg. Very 90’s Baywatch type of vibe, which again, I’m here for! I love how the one-piece came back into style with a vengeance and fully gave bikini’s a run for their money. This specific one-piece also has a low-cut back, proving that a one-piece costume’s can not only be revealing but can be just as sexy and trendy as bearing it all in a bikini. I have SO many one-piece costume’s I have yet to even wear, of which I will try take advantage of with more beach days on the horizon this summer.
The only issue I have with this one-piece was the strange and, if I’m being honest, poor execution of the inner ‘secret support’. It’s supposed to work as a type of bra and keep things in check for you but in my case it just caused more harm than good. The lining is way too high up and the elasticity is non-existent. Even the smallest of boobs have no support with a bra like this. Instead it actually made the costume look bizarre from the front and showed a random strip of material across my chest in the images. Poor Tegan had to try edit it out as best as possible, of which she did an excellent job at, however I am still left with one boob looking slightly enlarged/lopsided (if this is not an exclusive BTS story I don’t know what is ?). I have another two one-piece costume’s from Cotton On and they are all the same so it doesn’t seem to be a default item. Have any of you got swimwear from Cotton On this season? What are your experiences with their fit/quality?
Yellow Bikini – Hustle Apparel
Swan Float – Superbalist
Pink Full Piece – Cotton On
Cap – ML Edition
Towel – Country Road
If you’re in Cape Town right now I hope you are managing with the limited water we have left and are continuously praying for rain. That and showering with a bucket. #LivingThatGoodLife. If you are anywhere else in the country, I hope you are appreciative of your water and extended shower time, lord knows we are envious. If you enjoyed this post and want to see more from me this year, be sure to be following me on my social media pages (check the top right hand corner for all that info) and watch this space for more to come.
Wishing you all a wonderful 2018, may this year be YOUR year. The best year yet!
