Happy belated Valentines all you lovers out there… My apologies for not checking in last week, being a working girl is no joke. On top of having a day job this year I am also trying my hand at studying again (avoiding assignments as we speak), so be kind, I have a valid excuse. Taking up a lot of my time this year as well is trying out different looks to wear to work. It’s all about looking chic, mature (even if my pink stationary suggests otherwise) and effortlessly stylish. Clothing wise that’s not to much of an issue, especially as my office is very laid back and casual, the challenge is transferring that onto my hair and face when leaving the house before the sun is up! So here’s my 2016 trick of the trade that has saved my life so far.
Two words. All I have to say is, Eyelash Extensions.
So maybe I am a bit behind with this one, and you are sitting there wondering what rock I have fallen out from under, after all eyelash extensions are really reallyyy not a new trend, but I will continue on regardless. I went through a stage of wearing stick on lashes during my ‘young, wild and free’ partying years, which in pictures you can totally see they are fake and I am totally regretful. Then I went through a stage of caking on my mascara every time I left the house, which ultimately did more harm than good – I’m still convinced I lost 50% of my eyelashes every night I had to take off my make-up. So where does that leave me? About 3 months ago my sister got married and so, as one does, us girls went all out doing our hair, nails and… yes eyelashes. I had never had legit eyelash extensions before so I was a bit weary. I’ve seen eyelashes that are not done well and it really can look quite a sight. Anyway two hours and a couple hundred rand later, I was so impressed!
The extensions used are longer than my natural lashes, but shorter enough to still look natural. The perfect medium that I wanted. They are also much thicker and of course darker than my natural lashes so I find myself never needing to wear mascara – which honestly makes much more of a difference then you would think. I never knew what a mission it was having to do eye make-up everyday until I didn’t have to. On the weekends I still put in my usual effort with eye shadow and eyeliner but even then it’s less of an effort. It is a bit strange getting out the shower and seeing a perfect untouched set of lashes on my face, as if I had just done my make-up. But its a good strange.
For you ladies who don’t like the upkeep of having your nails done every couple of weeks and things like that, then lash extensions might raise a red flag for you as unfortunately; like everything in life, all good things must come to an end. Meaning that after 2+ weeks it’s a good idea to get an eyelash fill. For me personally I do it once every three weeks, any longer than that and it just turns into too much of a hassle. They start to fall out in drips and drabs and the eyelash fill takes over an hour to do. “Ain’t nobody got time for that” Price wise, really not unreasonable at all, depending on your salon of choice of course. Taking all that into consideration, they are worth the three week admin as they make your everyday life so much more convenient. I mean I am as fussy as they come, with regards to everything in life. And I mean EVERYTHING. Do you really think I would dedicate a whole post to eyelash extensions if they weren’t bomb?
This post is a bit unlike what I usually write about, but as a girl I love to hear about different beauty routines and things that can help to make life easier. I was hoping to post some pictures of my eyelashes before and after a fill so you could get a better idea of what I’ve been rambling on about, but in all honesty – I just don’t have the time to do anything extra right now. Once again I will make reference to my OCD tendencies and how I would never be happy with a quick selfie here and there, so for now my stamp of approval is just going to have to do 😉
On a side note, remember all those promises I made at the beginning of the year? In case you don’t, I promised that 2016 was going to be a big year for The Kayleigh Khronicles, with lots on the agenda and fresh new content. Well the wheels are turning and plans are in motion! So stay tuned for regular updates and a closer look into my life.
See you next week.
