Just like any girl, I have an ongoing love for lashes. Long, thick, butterfly eyelashes. The difference well-kept lashes can make to a person’s face is tremendous. Last year I did a post on eyelash extensions and how I wouldn’t go without them, ever. Fast forward a few months and I haven’t worn eyelash extensions in ages. I loved having them on and I loved how beautiful they looked, but the upkeep just became so exorbitant and I hated when they would start falling out. I personally didn’t have the time to go twice a month to keep them in pristine condition and so my lashes would have large gaps in between and overall, look ratty. Maintenance is important in any beauty regimen you follow. Introducing… (drum roll please) the lash lift.
I am always on the look out for new beauty tips and tricks so when I heard about an eyelash lift I was so excited! (I didn’t even know what is was yet but the name sounded so intriguing). I have since been wanting to have the treatment done for quite some time but just hadn’t found anyone I felt confident enough in to let near my lashes. Along came eyelash extraordinaire, professional make-up artist and ex-Beauty Editor at Elle, Sarah Hoberman.
What is a lash lift?
A lash lift is a treatment done to the top lashes to lift and curl them so that they look longer and fuller. It’s basically like curling your lashes, except the effect lasts up to eight weeks. To start off with the bottom lashes are secured down with tape or eye pads and silicone shields are gently glued over the closed lids. The lashes are then curled back and secured on the shields and are set in that shape. The process takes about 45 minutes or so and is 100% pain-free.
Once finished you need to wait 24 hours before applying any mascara or lotions to your lashes. I could feel straight away that my lashes had been curled and were sitting more prominently now, however I didn’t necessarily see too much of a difference visually. Tinting your lashes before hand is also recommended in order to really make your lashes pop once lifted. So if you’re a ‘no make-up no fuss’ kinda gal, or wanting to have fuller more dramatic lashes while you’re in and out of the water this summer, no mascara is needed. However a lash lift is best shown off once mascara is applied, really and truly! I curl my lashes on a daily basis but I can honestly say no eyelash curler has ever made my lashes this full or this striking. Considering in my mind I have short lashes, I was so impressed and amazed at the end result that the lash lift gave me. It definitely helps that Sarah knows what she’s doing, I had such peace of mind knowing my lashes were safely in the hands of a professional.
It’s important to note that this is by all means not a post going against eyelash extensions. I love them and will still do/recommend them for whenever there is an important occasion or particular reason, they are just not something I am able to maintain in everyday life right now. The lash lift is just a more natural, less time-consuming and affordable option. I’ve also loved all the compliments I’ve received about my lashes since having them lifted; especially when I get to respond, “Yip, they’re my real lashes.”
How much does it cost?
For R400 the lash lift gets you 6 – 8 weeks of gorgeous, striking lashes.
